A personal favourite, and usually always available in McCowan’s at Fountainpark in Edinburgh, is Thrappledouser. A great name, literally meaning “throat wet”, this delicious amber beer is chewy, spicy and refreshing from the first mouthfull through the thick head down to the dregs at the bottom – at which time it must be time for another?
