Lia Fail

lia_failInveralmond Brewery has a stronghold in McCowan’s Brewhouse at Fountain Park in Edinburgh, with any one or more of the regular range typically always available.  Given that the pub is right next door to the cinema where Erin, Chris and I have unlimited passes, it’s a natural choice when a pre- or post- (or both!) flicks drink is required!

Lia Fàil is gaelic for Stone of Destiny, and refers to the stone used during the Coronation of Scottish, then English, and now British monarchs.  The stone has been of particular political interest over the years since it’s creation (847 is the earliest confirmed use in Scotland) and has transfered hands between Scotland and England (both as a spoil of war, and then stolen back!) a number of times.  The beer namesake is the darkest of the regular brews from Inveralmond, and as such as a strong character and malty chocolate flavours which make it a good choice for an ale to chew on!
