Deuchars IPA

deuchars_ipaA fantastic pint! Simply brilliant – around Scotland, especially the East coast, this is a standby in practically every decent pub. Lovely bitterness, typical of the IPA style, and always dependable. Deuchars (please please please pronounce it as intended: Due-kers!) makes you proud to be from Edinburgh!

Amazingly, this pint was available in The Standing Order, George Street in Edinburgh for 99p. 99p! A ridiculous price for such a wonderful pint. Needless to say, myself, Chris and Casey enjoyed this generousity with a fair amount of gusto! :o )

Best Bitter

black_sheep_bitterThis was on as a guest ale at The Melville Inn, near Dobbies, and went down nice an easy.  It settled out before I drank it obviously, but it made for a much nicer picture!  The Melville Inn has a couple of pumps, but usually only one is in use when I’ve been in and invariably this is loaded with Deuchars.  However, this time this fine beer from the Black Sheep Brewery was available and greatfully received!

Red Cuillin

red_cuillinMy good friend Andy (see his website) and his good lady celebrated Hogmanay with Erin and I in our house and like a good chap he brought along some fine ale to lubricate proceedings.  However, as I had also planned ahead and got a couple of casks from Stewart Brewing, there was some left at the end of the night.  This Red Cuillin, from the Isle of Skye Brewing Company, was one such fortuitous extra which I had the pleasure of enjoying after the madness of the new year was over!

The Cuillin are a well known range of hills on the Isle of Skye, available in both black and red forms – much like the choice of beers from the brewery!  Red Cuillin is reddish in colour and has a smooth supping quality – a definite session beer.
