Thrappledouser

A personal favourite, and usually always available in McCowan’s at Fountainpark in Edinburgh, is Thrappledouser. A great name, literally meaning “throat wet”, this delicious amber beer is chewy, spicy and refreshing from the first mouthfull through the thick head down to the dregs at the bottom – at which time it must be time for another?

Polar Beer

polar_beer A very light coloured beer served quite cold at Doctors, Polar Beer seems like a good choice to start an afternoon of fine ale! Deceptively malty and sweet on the nose, the initial taste is delicate bitterness with citrus notes. The same tastes continue through the pint and makes for a very quaffable ale. The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste, and the initial malt on the nose reappears. Good stuff!

Goldihops

The name gives it away a little, but this golden pint has an amazing hoppy kick and is really refreshing. Chris and I enjoyed this fine pint while warming ourselves in Doctors – it was chilly outside (and Chris was late, as usual…) but this beer was worth leaving the house for. A bronze medal winner in the Society of Independant Brewers Awards in 2007 having won the Bitter category – champion!
